Artist Bio: Robin
is a freelance artist from Little Rock who lives in a quiet neighborhood
overlooking the Capitol with his girlfriend Ginny and their three
cats. He is a military brat who has called Arkansas home ever since
moving here in 1972.
While roaming the woods bird watching and collecting reptiles with
two high school friends, it became evident to Robin that he wanted
to attend Arkansas Tech to earn a degree in Fish and Wildlife management.
Chemistry got the better of him and he decided to switch to the
art department. He received his art degree from Tech in 1980 and
did post graduate work in illustration and graphic design at UALR.
Between stints working in record stores and restaurants, he has
been painting for a living ever since. Most of his commercial works
are murals for restaurants, ad agencies, theaters and museums. His
last project was a series of murals for the Arkansas Game and Fish
Commission Headquarters in Little Rock.
The drawings and painting
he does for himself are on a much smaller scale and usually contain
elements found in his garden and the natural world.
Artist Interpretation:
"One wet, early spring day, staring into the garden,
bird-watching, I
saw the containers of pansies my girlfriend had planted the previous
fall. The colors were vibrant against the unfortunate gray deck
which has since been pressure washed and stained.
"I thought painting
the huge pansies on the chair would create a bold pattern which
would draw the viewer closer, revealing even more details of the
flowers. Our garden is beginning to explode into color and this
chair represents a celebration of spring and the oncoming of summer."
