Artist Bio: April
Ross was born in San Francisco and lived in California until moving
to Arkansas in 1975. She now lives in Little Rock and is married
with two children, Oliver and Marie. A Puppeteer for 23 years, April
makes many of her own puppets, many of which have been displayed
and sold in the "Toys Designed By Artists" show held annually
in Little Rock.
She taught "Performing Arts" for eight
years at Pulaski Academy School. With her own group of student puppeteers,
she traveled all over the city performing shows at schools, bookstores,
libraries, and churches. Some of her paintings were chosen for the
"Delta Exhibit" in Little Rock and she has painted murals
for businesses and homes.
Recently, she has been inspired to create "Dog" art using
various mediums: acrylic paint, polymer clay, and fabric. Her Rottweiler,
Al, is the love of her life and her favorite muse.
Artist Interpretation:
For twenty years, traveling with her family from Little Rock to
Hot Springs, April experienced all the tourist sites and has wonderful
memories of fun adventures, gorgeous scenery, and delicious restaurants.
"With Al as the inspiration for my chair, I tried to decide how
he might enjoy himself in Hot Springs. Nine years old, the baby
of the family and the joy of my family, Al is totally spoiled.
Like Pinocchio, Al's one true wish, in my opinion, is to be
a 'real boy.' So, in my design, Al sits with his
pure Hot Springs water, relaxing in the sun, and is thinking of
all the fun things he has experienced in the 'Spa City!'"
