Artist Interpretation: "A Day at the Beach represents the spontaneous, fun and whimsical side of childhood. The students chose the colors on the chair because they made them think of summer and fun. Many of the features simply evolved through the active imaginations of the student artists involved and the materials that they found.

"The desire by Meagan Conry for the chair to have fringe was solved by creating 'rubber fringe.' The children made stamps, and used their hands as well as paintbrushes and foam brushes to paint the chair.

"Meagan has been home-schooled since kindergarten, and has taken many art classes and is a very creative artist. The contrast of fringe on what should be an outside chair is very interesting. It was a good solution to have waterproof fringe.

"Missy Conry wanted beads. Mardi-Gras beads were a fun solution and she spent many hours stringing them in different patterns. She also created the rubber medallion on the back of the chair. Both Meagan and Missy swim on the swim team at the YMCA. Their mother, Sue Conry, has home-schooled four daughters.

"Kye Masino is home-schooled in Little Rock and Hot Springs. He initiated this project by creating a drawing of his vision of the chair. It was his desire to include his friends and other home-schooled kids in the project. Both his hand and Pierce Williams' hand can be spotted in many places on the chair. They painted and stamped to their hearts content.

"Jake Williams and Arthur Colvis were responsible for much of the base coat. Arthur Colvis is one of 5 children home-schooled by Barbara Mueller. Jake Williams grew up at his mothers art center "It's Art" and has been an active participant in many art events. He is a self-described 'computer geek.'

"Garrett Williams worked very hard painting a leg of the chair and himself. Hopefully, A Day at the Beach represents the fun of life and everything 'outside of the box'."
